Chapter 1
It was dark, and I was alone. I saw nothing but a small ball of multi-colored light in the distance. Cautiously, I approached it. But the closer I tried to get, the further is moved out of view. Eventually after trying to fallow it, it disappeared altogether.
A small child-like voice spoke to me, "Life as you know shall change, my friend."
"Who are you, what are you talking about?" I said extremely confused and unable to recognize the voice.
"In time, Callia, in time" The voice repeated those words and faded off.
I woke up.
This dream, it was bizarre. It had been recurring often. And even more since school was drawing closer. Well, why should I waste my time on a stupid dream? I needed to get ready to head off to ninth grade at Rekra High. The school was really small. The entire high school had only 2,000. My last school had over 10,000 kids in the high school. I looked at the clock. 8:45. Shit, Sharon forgot to wake me up. She knows I'm not a morning person.
Sharen is my mom's old friend who she entrusted to me after she died. At least I went to someone who cares that I exist, (well maybe not enough to wake me up). My mom had died of some weird unknown illness just a few weeks before. I shook that painful memory for my mind and got dressed in my new shirt that Sharen insisted I get and my older dirt flare jeans that Sharen didn't think needed replacing.
I looked at the clock again; it was 8:50. I ran down to the kitchen, grabbed a doughnut, and ate it as fast as I could. I grab all my books and bolted out the door with 7 minutes to spare. Luckily, I live not a block from school. I ran as fast as I could. I ran threw the door glancing at my watch. 8:58. Whew. I just made it in time.
I found my locker, and uncaringly threw my bag into the locker. I looked at my schedule and went to my homeroom class. I walked into the room. Everyone was staring at me. I glanced at the clock. 9:02. Crap, I was late.
The Science teacher, Mr. Bellono gave me a disapproving look. "You must be Callia. I don't how it is at your old school, but we at Rekra, arrive on time"
"Sorry Sir, I'll try to arrive on time next time." I replied rolling my eyes. I walked over to the only seat available. It was next to a brown hair guy. He was kind of tall even sitting down. I tried to ignore him and sat down.
Mr. Bellono wasn't teaching anything of importance. Just first day stuff, so I just doodled aimlessly on my notebook. I could feel eyes staring at me; I looked over at the boy. "Can I help you?" I asked him.
"Sorry," he said, "I'm not trying to be creepy, I was just looking at your picture, that picture is pretty impressive." I looked at the picture. It was the exact opposite of good. It was a freaking stick figure.
"Thanks," I said, trying to be nice.
"I'm Sam." He smiled at me. "And you're Callia."
"Wow, your physic," I said sarcastically.
"I like your necklace." He said pointing at it.
"Thanks, it was my mom's. She died a few weeks ago" I said trying not to look sad and pathetic.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. My dad left me when I was born; it's just me and my mom."
"Well, I have my godmother, so I'm not completely alone." He was wearing a necklace too, it was a intricately designed white key, kind of like mine, but mine was differently crafted and black. "I like your key too; we must have got it from the same shop." He chuckled. "What's so funny?" I asked.
"Nothing," He said smiling.
The bell rang and we walked out together.
"What do you have next?" Sam asked.
"Algebra, I think" I looked at my schedule. "Yeah algebra"
"Crap, I've got music next. Well I guess I'll see you later." He left without another word.
